Good Things To Come

Devin Funchess

first career touchdown.
With a receiving corps underacheiving, who would really step up and make an impact? Well, Devin Funchess a true freshman TE ended up doing just that. Last week against the Air Force Falcons, Devin caught 4 catches for 106 yards and one TD. His one TD was an outstanding catch jumping over a defender and showing great hands to come down with the 30 yard grab. He became the first TE since Jerame Tuman who had 126 yards in 1997 against Colorado.

Funchess earned B1G Freshman Of The Week with his breakout game on Saturday afternoon. Certainly this is a good sign to come with a mediocre receiving squad. Funchess stood out and hopefully this elevates his fellow receivers to step up. I'm expecting a big passing game Saturday against the Minutemen, and this should be a great game to touch up any flaws in the pass blocking schemes and route running. Going against a much smaller team I'd expect many players to breakout.
